Verified behavior

Do not use the presence of Template Link in the Share menu as the plan check. On the tested Canva Free account, the option was visible, but opening it led to a panel whose only action was Free trial for 30 days.

Test setup

We used a signed-in Canva Free account and a private blank 1200 × 800 px synthetic design. No collaborators were added, no sharing setting changed, and no link was created.

Tested steps

  1. Open the private design and choose Share.
  2. Confirm Template Link appears among the share actions.
  3. Open Template Link and wait for the detail panel to load.
  4. Confirm the panel explains how a template link works but offers a 30-day free trial.
  5. Return to Share and repeat the same check.

Both runs produced the same result. We did not click the trial button.

Why the option can look available

Canva’s current Help Center says creating and sharing template links is available to eligible paid, education, and nonprofit plans. The editor can still expose the navigation entry to Free users; the entitlement is enforced in the detail panel.

Safe plan check

Open the full Template Link panel and inspect the final action. Stop before starting a trial if the goal is only to identify plan access. Do not create a normal share link as a substitute: it grants access to the original design rather than creating a reusable copy workflow.
